$73,000 is average salary of ESL teacher

Came across a website that states the starting salary for ESL teachers is $43,000/year and the average is a whopping $73,000!

If this doesn’t make you want to teach, I don’t know what can.  I would have never guessed the salary is this high.  It does mention that you should have an English degree or Education degree, but maybe teaching a few years overseas could replace that.  It also says that one needs to obtain a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) or TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate, which is a relatively easy task.  Lastly, unlike trying to teach unmotivated children in a traditional classroom setting, this job usually has you teaching adults who are highly motivated to learn.

Similarly to teaching adults in foreign countries, the one downside to this is you must work early mornings and late evenings, around their work schedules.
