Seeking a Qualified ESL Teacher Full-Time
English Studio Soest , Soest, Germany
|About this job:||
English Studio Soest is a small, independent language school in Soest, NRW, Germany which has been teaching English to students aged 12 to retirement, private and corporate, since 2011. It was founded by a Canadian teacher who has taught English and English Literature in language academies and international schools in South Korea, Turkey, Albania and Germany.
We are ready to grow and are seeking one full-time ESL teacher. The following is non-negotiable. You are a native speaker of English. You hold a Bachelor’s degree in English Literature, Linguistics or related area. You have TEFL certification which you earned in an in-person course. We do not accept on-line variants. International teaching experience is a plus, but not a firm requirement. We are happy to hire those freshly graduated. You are a serious applicant seeking to begin, or continue, your ESL career, which you will indicate by agreeing to a two-year contract. While this seems excessive, we must protect ourselves against those who see teaching English as a means of drinking their way through Europe. We want to know that we are working with, and investing in, serious teachers seeking to grow with a company who would welcome the stability a long-term contract provides.
You will teach English to students of all ages. The majority of our work is teaching general English to working adults and in almost all cases, these students want 1-on-1, or private, lessons. We also tutor school children from Class 7 to12 (Nachhilfe) and often prepare the older teens for English proficiency exams, such as Cambridge First Certificate. We also have business and corporate clients whom we teach on-site and this is almost always groups. We often have retiree aged students who study with us for the benefits of learning in old age. So, we have a broad range of students, or motivations, amongst our client base. We also have an excellent record of student retention. 25% of our current students have been with us for over 4 years, with 50% being with us for at least 2 years now.
Soest is a beautiful, medieval walled city with a population of roughly 45,000. It is ideally situated for those who love outdoor recreation and nature. A quiet city, it is nonetheless very well situated for travel throughout Germany and Europe thanks to a busy train station. Münster, Dortmund, Düsseldorf and Cologne are all well served with direct, regular, often hourly, trains. Further destinations such as Berlin, Hamburg and Amsterdam are easily achieved by train in 2.5 – 4.5 hours, with direct trains daily to Munich in only 5 hours.
Applicants from EU citizens or non-EU citizens who already possess permission to live and work long-term in Germany are welcome. Those living in BREXIT-affected areas are equally encouraged to apply. However, we have to acknowledge that we do not know how BREXIT will ultimately affect your ability to live and work in Germany longterm. Meaning that if you are from England and sign a 2-year contract with us, post-BREXIT realities may lead to the necessary early dissolution of the contract to remain inline with German and/or EU policy.
Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.
